My closet, my husband’s closet, my son’s closet, and all my scrapbook papers are all sorted in rainbow order. I love it! It just makes sense to have things in rainbow order. I found your blog through your awesome fabric-folding tutorial. Blessings!

When I line dry my clothes I “have” to hang them by color and by item (you know the pants together by color, the shirts together by color, etc.) It’s not always strictly rainbow order depending on what’s in the basket, but it always looks beautiful when I’m done.

I adore Mr. Roy G. Biv ) — I find it therapeutic to arrange things in this way, and get much enjoyment from it, though I must say that I don’t feel an “uncomfortable compulsion” to do so. I just love to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed your post, too!

At work (school office) we were getting new shelving and 4 of us all said simultaneously that the paper and cardboard had to be stacked in rainbow order on the new shelves. It looks gorgeous, is soothing to the eye (and soul) and I have a photo as my new desktop background. Two of us are quilters and confessed to having our stashes packed the same way!

You’re definitely not the only one! It’s a compulsion for me. I’ve collected bright objects and rainbows for years and my entire office is nothing but one big rainbow explosion.

I used to organize everything, neatly and compulsively, by colour, size, use and shape—at the time it was the only thing i felt i had control of in my life. My house was colour coded, from dishes to closets to towels and soaps. Then i changed certain things (persons!) and realized my true self needed a certain amount of “chaos” in creativity—-i don’t think in a linear motion to make art, so how could i pick down that ordered line for what i needed? With no expectations that “red and pink stink” or “blue and green should not be seen”, i can mix purples and oranges and reds and oranges and whatever with oranges :}—Mother Nature does it all the time, and who says she’s “wrong”?
The only things i organize now by colour specifically are beads—i loathe bead soups and stews :}

Ha! I do that all the time. Like previous commenters said, my closet is organized by color. So are all my craft supplies (the stuff I can see, anyway – the stuff thrown in a box because it doesn’t fit anywhere else is a sad jumble of abandoned rainbow). There’s something soothing in predictability and pattern.

Mr. BIV lives at my house, too, esp. in Fabric Land. I have warm colors (ROY) each in their own containers but all next to one another. I have cool colors (G. BIV) same situation. Then a container each for White/Cream, Beige/Tan, Gray/Black. A zipper bag of fabrics which can represent soil (White Sand to Black Clay).

My “theme” fabrics are in their own containers: Food, Quilts of Valor (lots of donated fabric here; I don’t want to mingle it with my own), Reproduction (19th c. vs. 1930s), Holidays, Cats, Dogs, Bounty (harvest related), Tea/Coffee, Critters (mostly fish and birds, but some juvie lizard prints, too), Batiks, Hand Dyed, and Bright Multi-Colored What Color Is It Really? (one container). Probably missed a couple, but you get the idea….

I like the fruit color sorted, though I haven’t done it yet–it looks very cheerful!

I sort my clothes this way in the closet. I get a bit twitchy if it doesn’t gradate from light to black. Makes it much easier to find things! Never sorted my fruit. Yet.
