I’d rather be stitching!
I am on deadline tonight for an academic chapter that I’m co-authoring with a friend. As fun as it is to see your name in print, to be honored by your peers and referenced by grad students everywhere in their mid-term research papers, I am growing tired of academic writing.
I’d rather be stitching! I don’t want to write, I want to sew! But I’m not allowed to sew until I finish writing.
Sigh!

I just came over from spiritcloth (I’m Jude’s brother and the quilt pictured at the top of her blog now belongs to me). I just thought I would say that I’m an academic scientist, so your post about what you’d rather be doing instead of academic writing really made me laugh. I’d usually rather be making saw dust and hitting my thumb with a hammer!
(And by the way, my house is 500 square feet.)

Creativity and academia have SOME overlaps, but not a lot. Coming home from work to books and comma splices just doesn’t always seem like the best way to refresh!

I love your drawings. Hope the writing goes well and that you get to enjoy your stitching reward soon!

Thanks for the encouragement, Sarah. Your words were a nice boost.

I can relate I’d always rather be stitching. I found a way to stitch and be a housewife at the same time. I do some cleaning and then I stitch for a little while and then I do some more cleaning and then some more stitching. Like having my cake and eating it too.

@Debraann: You’re very disciplined if you can hold off on your stitching until more important things are done. This is a lesson I am still trying to learn!
